Event report for our match at Woburn on 26th September 2018
We are fortunate to have five members of Woburn Golf club as members of BTU. That has enabled us to arrange a match at favourable rates.
This year two of our Woburn members were abroad when the match was played so a friend of the Captain hosted a team enabling everyone to benefit from preferential rates. Many thanks to Tim Davis.
For late September the weather was truly superb 22 degrees and a warm breeze.
We played the Duchess course, often called the Jewel in the Crown and known by members to be the most challenging of the three courses. It is the longest of the courses off of the Yellow tees. You also need a strong nerve as there is very little space between its towering Pines.
The winner of the Tigers’ prize for those with handicaps of 11 and below was John Pennell. He was one of the few to have parred the first two holes.
The Rabbits’ winner for those with handicaps 12 or above was Neil Battams whose club handicap is 14 but who played off of 12 due to winning a previous event - he actually had the best Gross Stableford score (24) and put the Tigers to shame.
The Guests’ prize was won by Steve Maycock’s guest Graham Richards.
Paul Hucker won the Nearest the Pin prize.
Winner of the Maiden trophy, which is calculated by the highest Stableford points minus handicap plus age was awarded to our Captain Ken Minter.
Ken has also won the Golfer of the Year competition for the most Stableford points scored in the year.
