Th                                                    2018 BTU National Competition Report

In Early June 12 of our members where selected to represent us at the excellent Prince Bishops course in Durham.

The event was superbly organized by our North East BTU Region and we stayed at the Ramside Hall hotel - A great hotel if playing golf or visiting the City.

We came 5th this year, so in our last three competitions we have come 6th,4th and 5th. Our outstanding pairing was Jim Livingstone and Gary Harwood who equalled the second best score of the day with a creditable 46 points. There was indeed one score of 50 points so competition was tough.

Photographs of the the leader board and team are on Website>photos>Photos BTU National 2018.

Before my leg is pulled even more than it was, Vice Captain Ben and I did score 49 points on practice day. We just needed to put that score in on the following day. But as you know, that’s the way this game is sometimes.

As those that have played in these events will confirm, this really is one of the most enjoyable events you can ever play in.  It’s fun, it’s competitive and you get to meet and spend time playing and socializing with our fellow BTU members from across the UK and the Republic of Ireland.

If you would like to get involved, details are on our Website>Membership. However, the next team will be selected from those who support the society regularly, and who put in some good scores during the three years before an event. Without the regular supporters we would not have a society!  To take into account new members, and in-form players, the Captain and Secretary have two picks.

Please don’t miss this opportunity to play in our next National Competition. It’s an event not to be missed.

I should like to express thanks on behalf of the society to Protocol who sponsored us by providing shirts for this competition.

                                                             Game at Harpenden

Only 12 members of the society played in the National Competition, so for those other members who wanted a game in June, Terry Lee volunteered to make arrangements for a game at Harpenden where we had played in 2017. The small group that played enjoyed a good afternoon at this venue.
