Captain’s Day  27th July 2017  on the Duke’s Course at Woburn Golf Club

We enjoyed a wonderful day at Woburn with  28 players including a number of guests.  The results are shown below:

Captain’s Prize and Sulzer Cup (for members only). This was the main competition for the day and was won by our new member Neil Battams who scored a very creditable 36 Stableford points playing off a handicap of 14. Bob Exley was the runner-up with 34 points.

Team Prize. Our Captain (Ken Minter) had arranged the draw so that each group had (as far as possible) a similar range of handicaps in order to make the teams well balanced. A team score was calculated by taking the sum of the best 3 Stableford scores on each hole.  The winning team comprised Ken Minter, Andy Kirton, Mel Wright and Ray Greenall (Woburn guest). Each team member received a BTU wine glass, and the two best contributors received (for one year) a Crittall & Musgrave Cup.

Woburn Guest Prize.  Mike Costello who had led the team comprising Terry Lee, Steve Maycock and guest Dominic Adams, played off 11 and scored 36 points.

Member Guest Prize.  Ron Harwood (guest of Gary Harwood) and Tony Wren (guest of Jim Livingstone) both scored 31 points. Ron won with a  better back 9.

Scratch Prize (for members only).   Three players  Neil Battams,  Paul Hucker and Jim Livingstone all scored 22 Gross Stableford points.  Jim Livingstone was the winner with the best back 9.

Nearest the Pin (open to all). Winner: Neil Battams. The competition was held on the famous short par 3 (121 yards).
